Redesigning Paypal’s invoicing platform

PayPal’s invoicing tool helps merchants globally create estimates, track payments, and set reminders within their dashboard. In 2024, I led a redesign of the invoice creation page to boost conversion rates and better serve PayPal’s diverse merchants.
Since 2021, PayPal’s invoicing product has seen a steady decline, with churn affecting both new and long-term users. My job was to re-design the experience taking into consideration both the needs of first time users and power users within the platform.
The redesigned interface balances a clear hierarchy with the ability to drill deeper and discover more advanced features. It was important to maintain some patterns that merchants were used to from the past, while still updating the experience to the latest design system and improved UX patterns.
PayPal utilized various design systems that lacked cross-platform alignment. I developed an invoicing library that facilitated seamless component and view swapping, clearly demonstrating the experience variations across different baseline systems to stakeholders.
A partial rollout of the new design resulted in a 0.2% increase in overall conversion rates and a 2.2% boost among first-time users, leading to over 10,000 additional invoices sent each month.
